Osteopathy

Support your body and ease your mind with gentle, effective care for sensitive nervous systems.

Are you experiencing unwanted bodily pain, fatigue or tension that’s making your world feel small?

Perhaps you’re someone living in a body that is more prone to injuries or flare ups and find traditional therapies too intense.

You’ve been searching for someone who doesn’t put you in the "too hard basket" and sees you as the whole, wonderful human that you are.

At Zebras, we understand how difficult it can be to find a practitioner who truly understands what it means to live with a rare chronic condition. You deserve care that meets you where you are and works with your body, not against it.

Who are we?
We are a trailblazing team of healthcare workers here to put an end to less-than-positive experiences for those living with rare chronic conditions. Our osteopaths bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and empathy, working closely with you to enhance your wellbeing.

We’ve supported thousands of people on their journey, and we would be honoured to do the same for you.

What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an integrative approach that views the body as a unit capable of self-regulation and healing. At Zebras, our osteopaths combine tailored neuroscience education and gentle hands-on therapies with lifestyle recommendations to support your overall wellbeing.

Co-created by you and your osteopath, our care plans are designed to:

  • Explore practical ways to manage day-to-day symptoms that are accessible and grounded in science
  • Build supportive routines and habits whilst pacing your day
  • Learn how to effectively rest and recover from injuries, minimise flare-ups and cope with stress
  • Find safe, enjoyable ways to move your body

Our osteopaths focus on empowering you with the tools and knowledge to deepen your understanding of your body, while subtle techniques aim to restore mobility, balance and ease.

Osteopathy can support:

  • Acute injuries such as sprains and strains
  • Joint hypermobility including subluxation and dislocation
  • Lower back pain and tension
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder pain and tension
  • Neck pain and tension
  • Digestive issues
  • Jaw pain and tension
  • Hip and pelvic pain

Whilst osteopathy often intervenes at the level of muscles, bones and joints, we consider the impact of your issue on your entire system.

Three ingredients we consider essential for supporting our community. Our osteopaths have made a conscious choice to support those with rare chronic conditions. We are tertiary-trained, and proudly integrate new science with old wisdom into our approach. We acknowledge that science is a moving frontier and are committed to furthering our understanding and sharing new discoveries with you along the way.

Knowledge, passion and experience
Trauma is a fundamental human experience, and our osteopaths are sensitive to the needs of those who experience this in an ongoing way. We have carefully considered our space and offering to feel inclusive and nurturing for all bodies, brains and minds, as well as complimenting psyche-based trauma therapies with our own unique approach.
Trailblazing trauma-informed care
To heal is to become whole and you are more than your diagnoses to us. There is an intimacy in our work, as we endeavour to know you as a person, your stories, experiences and aspirations. Our osteopaths create individualised plans combining nervous system education, lifestyle guidance and gentle hands on therapies to nurture sensitive bodies.

We see you as a whole
What makes osteopathy at Zebras different?

Osteopathy at Zebras
Following your first consultation, you can choose from three consultation lengths - long, medium and short - each designed to meet you where you are at.

Here’s what you can expect…

  • A mindful start... Each session begins with an intentional check-in, helping you transition into the space and connect with your body.

  • Co-creating an agenda… Together, we’ll briefly reflect on what is (and isn’t) working well and set an agenda for the session, ensuring your priorities guide our time together.

  • Building your toolkit… You’ll be invited to engage in movement, breathing, mindfulness, and other body-based practices to regulate your nervous system and manage your symptoms.

  • Learning together… Each session includes space for exploring a variety of topics including the origins of pain, fatigue and tension in the body, the stress response and the impact of trauma.

  • Understanding your body… We’ll use relevant physical assessments to deepen our understanding of your body and its unique patterns.

  • Hands-on therapies… With care and intention, we’ll draw on myofascial release, muscle energy, balanced ligamentous tension, visceral techniques and more—to address your concerns.

  • Future planning… Together, we’ll outline a clear plan for the sessions ahead, ensuring your journey is both intentional and supported.

  • Take-home support… If desired, we’ll provide an email summary highlighting key takeaways and suggestions for home-based practices.

  • Collaborative care… We work with your broader circle of care to ensure we’re all aligned in supporting your health and if needed, we can also connect you with trusted allied health or medical professionals.

Frequently asked questions

Are you able to diagnose my chronic illness?

Are you able to diagnose my rare chronic condition?

Are you able to diagnose my  rare chronic condition?

Our osteopaths are able to provide diagnoses for a range of neuromusculoskeletal concerns.

As allied health practitioners, we are unable to provide diagnoses for the majority of the rare chronic conditions we see. We promise to listen and undertake any special testing that may support your journey to a formal diagnosis.

If you need further clarity on this, please reach out to our friendly client experience team and we may be able to connect you with a suitably experienced medical practitioner within our network.

Should I see an osteopath or a physiotherapist?

Should I see an osteopath or a physiotherapist?

Osteopathy and physiotherapy share many similarities. Both are tertiary-qualified, evidence-based professions regulated by AHPRA, with a focus on diagnosing, treating, and preventing health concerns. They both aim to provide symptomatic relief, restore movement and function, and improve overall wellbeing through hands-on therapies, therapeutic movement, lifestyle guidance, and education

Osteopathy is a newer and growing profession in Australia, differing from physiotherapy in its philosophy, training and methods.

At Zebras, our osteopaths and physiotherapists work collaboratively, integrating their expertise to place you—and what is meaningful to you—at the centre of your care. Both professions can be valuable additions to your care team, and choosing between them often depends on your unique needs and preferences.

How do I get started?

How do I get started?

Due to the demand for our offerings, we are currently running a priority care list for all new enquiries. If you are interested in accessing care at Zebras Australia, please complete this preliminary questionnaire and we will be in touch as soon as possible.

Our intake process involves an
initial consultation - consisting of 50 minutes face-to-face and 1o minutes non-face-to-face time - booked with the osteopath most closely aligned to you and your needs. This can be in-person if you’re local to us, otherwise modern technology allows us to connect and care for you from the comfort of your own home.

After listening to the feedback from our community, we are mindful that your capacity to engage for long periods may be limited. For this reason, we have found this length of time to be spacious enough to balance a high level of care with minimal after effects but please reach out if you have any concerns around this.

What can I expect in my first consultation?

What can I expect in my first consultation?

Our first consultation together is about getting to know you as a person, your journey, your current challenges, supports and aspirations.

We’ll take some time to settle into the physical (or virtual) space before asking you some questions. The information we gather in this encounter is invaluable for creating context for your concerns and helping us to work out how we can best support you.

When it comes to assessment, specific testing may be necessary but we will be ultimately be guided by your capacity on the day.

We can talk about our findings and then at this point, you may have some questions for us...

  • What type of sessions should I book with you?
  • What can I expect from my sessions with you?
  • What do you expect of me in between sessions?
  • How often would you suggest I see you?
  • How long would you suggest I see you?
  • Is there anyone else you recommend that I consider adding to my team?

Our intention is to answer these questions and more, so that you know what to expect during your time at Zebras. We’re even happy to summarise this information for you in an email following your session.

Once you’re happy with the plan we’ve created, and with your permission, we’ll schedule time to write to your circle of care to let them know we’ve joined your team.

With your intake complete, it’s now time to start working on your first steps towards a life that is big, full and bright.
